Creating a Design system for Fringe required system-thinking across business values, end-user goals, and internal stakeholder needs.
Building this design system coincided with building out a new end-to-end UXD for their consumers. After auditing the consumer and admin-facing experience, I parsed out Atomic Design components to serve as the foundation for our design system
Define Platforms, Create Hifi's, Prototype
Pulling from the context surrounding the intent of these grouped experiences I defined the system's core patterns and best ux practices to create and maintain. This was a very collaborative process. I worked closely with the engineering team to document engineering specs and ux design guidelines in Storybook.
Marketing Site
When building a design system, creating components for a SaaS product and a marketing website involves distinct considerations. For a SaaS product, the focus is on functional elements that enhance user interaction, ensuring consistency and efficiency within the application interface. On the other hand, components for a marketing website emphasize visual appeal, storytelling, and brand communication. While both share foundational elements, their specific attributes cater to the unique needs of functional user interfaces versus marketing-driven content experiences.
Holistic Design System
This design system was set to support the marketing, product engineers, and the executive team. The design system, although spec'd out still requires ux guidelines for how to manage the system to maintain scalability. I worked with the development team to fashion the component library to quickly prototype out new features.
Ultimately from a product development standpoint, the standards set here are to leverage human-centered principles to incorporate a more complementary process between Agile and Lean methods

UX Pattern Recommendations and Guidelines UX needs ongoing design maintenance to maintain the cohesion of the UX patterns in presentation, and navigation, to meet user expectations.
The Fringe Design System Documentation, informing our Storybook Component Library, will need ongoing iteration to graft in UI/UX updates, design refactoring, and the build-out of new components and patterns to speed up product development cycles and reduce UX and UI design debt throughout all Fringe platforms.
